Flower Ministry

A small team share the task of visually enhancing our worship with arrangements of flowers which are replenished every week. Special floral displays are undertaken at the majorchurch festivals.

They also provide posies for members to take to sick and housebound friends. These are left on the windowsill in the entrance hall; just take one after service – no need to ask.

On Mothering Sunday buttonholes are made for each lady attending morning service.

The team give their time and expertise free for weekly decorations but may be pleased to quote for decorating the church for weddings in aid of church funds, or to offer advice to those couples wishing to make arrangements with other florists.

The cost of providing flowers varies with season, typically flowers for one pedestal
arrangement run to £12.50 and there are usually at least two, so flowers for one
week average £25. Members are very generous with their donations to the flower
fund often choosing to link their gift to the date of a personal anniversary
and to request a colour scheme – every effort is made to get the appropriate
colours but very occasionally local florists and wholesalers don’t have the
required colours in stock.

Often members get together and share a date and thecost of the donation. There is a flower calendar on the vestibule notice board.
The new calendar is put up in September but you can add your name to a vacant
date at any time. Donations in cash or cheques made out to “Northgate Methodist
Church Flower Fund” may be handed to Barbara Meddoms. The team doesn’t meet
regularly as a group but anyone wishing to join will be welcome and assistance
to get started can be provided if needed.
